From idea to completion

Bringing any idea to life, whether it is a renovation or furnishing a space, is painstaking work. It takes a solid understanding of technical details and a knowledge of the materials on the market and of furniture, lighting and decorative pieces, all of which have to be shaped into one finished result – a space you want to spend time in.

Bringing a design idea to life is a path of negotiation and compromise between wishes and possibilities – one that a good designer, sometimes like a skilled magician, is able to make work. It is a process that takes knowledge, patience and vision.

Every interior has its own path from idea to completion. Every story starts with a floor plan – sometimes already defined, and sometimes one that needs changes, improvements and adjustments.

With renovations, the process is considerably more complex. Besides any necessary changes to the floor plan, we need to plan the complete layout of the installations, prepare drawings and/or diagrams for any niches, drywall and openings, draw layouts for the wall and floor finishes, and specify all materials and their quantities.

With furnishing projects the picture is somewhat simpler: we have to work with the existing installations, which means we have a little less freedom to let our imagination run wild.

In both cases, the right path from idea to completion means listening to the clients' needs and wishes and respecting the rules of the profession. Once we have turned this into 3D visualisations and the client has approved the final visual design, the less glamorous part of the process begins – drawings, installation plans, joinery drawings, links and everything else needed to build what has been designed.

The complete documentation is needed to obtain quotes and therefore to choose the contractor. The best path from idea to completion is to keep the designer involved as a co-creator of the idea itself. Of course, a good understanding between client, designer and contractor is key.

Once we have all the drawings and a well-defined budget, the renovation or furnishing process begins, which usually takes several months.

By defining all the parameters well, we save time and money and reduce the risk of mistakes in the process, and with it the stress. There is always a chance that something will surprise us, of course, but good planning keeps that to a minimum.

We usually round off the end of the works by photographing your home. This lets us show others how we work, and we use the photos solely as our own references, without disclosing the exact location or the owner of the property.
